In Gaelic it means ‘apple tree’ which in celtic mythology occupies an important place : the celtic afterlife kingdom is pictured as an island where apple trees grow whose fruits are sweet just like honey. For the Celts the apple was the fruit of immortality, science and wisdom, a way to reach the afterlife kingdom often given to humans by beings who inhabit it.
